Irini is Russian/Greek and arrived to Brussels in 2008 to pursue a career in international affairs after her studies.

Having gone through various fitness routines, Irini discovered Pilates in 2011 and was instantly hooked on the impact this system of exercise has on a body and the overall well-being.

She joined a Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Training program in 2016 and is now working towards her full certification in mat and apparatus.

In parallel, Irini is also working full time for an international non-profit organisation that fights corruption and the abuse of power.

What is Pilates ?

Pilates is a low impact system of exercise and physical movement developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates to strengthen the human mind and body.

Originally named “Contrology” by its inventor and used to treat injured soldiers during the First World War, Pilates method has seen a rapid growth in popularity over the past 20 years thanks to its numerous benefits and versatility.

If practiced regularly Pilates can help develop a strong core, improve posture, balance, flexibility, mental/muscular coordination and overall body awareness.

It can be practiced on the floor using just a mat or on the so-called apparatus – specifically designed equipment used to facilitate and challenge the movement.

Can anyone do Pilates ?

Given that Pilates exercises and sequences can be modified to provide either a gentle strength training program or a challenging workout, most people have no problem with following this form of exercise.

It is suitable both for beginners and for people who already exercise regularly.

It is however recommended to check first with your doctor if you are pregnant, had a recent injury or other health problems.
